Connecting Verses with Portals
Step 1: Create Verses
If you want to connect Verses with jump buttons for users to explore your worlds, begin by creating the individual Verses you wish to link.
While you can create Verses directly from a project, doing so generates a new Verse each time. For linking multiple Verses, it’s recommended to first create the necessary Verses and then update them with scenes that include links to the other Verses.
To create a Verse in the editor:
In the editor, create a new Verse using the 'Open on Web Browser' button from your project and save its link for later use.
Alternatively, use the ‘Try it now’ button in the XR editor to create a new Verse, but make sure to manually copy and save the link.
Repeat this process for each Verse you want to have available as a portal.
Option 1 for Portals: Linking Verses From Within the Metaverse
You can link Verses directly from one Verse to another without creating new scenes. Here are the available methods:
Adding a 2D Portal View
Visit the Verse where you want to add links to other Verses
Copy the URL of the Verse you want to link to.
Go to the Scene Settings and open the Advanced Settings dropdown.
Paste the URL into the Add a portal to another Metaverse option. This generates a 2D icon with the title and image of the linked Verse.
Creating an Image Link
Visit the Verse where you want to add the links.
Copy the URL of the Verse you want to link to.
Paste the URL directly into the current Verse using Ctrl/Cmd + V. This generates a screenshot of the linked Verse and adds a Jump link.
Using the Upload Tool:
Open the Verse where you want to add links.
Access the toolbar and navigate to the Upload section. Click File.
Upload a 3D object or an image to use as a portal.
Copy the URL of the Verse you want to link to.
In the upload form, click Advanced Options and paste the URL. You can choose to:
Hide the Jump button, making the entire object clickable.
Keep the Jump button visible.
- Click Upload. This generates a clickable object that links to the specified Verse.
Option 2: Linking Verses in the XR Creator
You can also connect Verses within an XR Project by following these steps:
Create a new project in the XR Creator.
Use the Link element to add a new link to your scene.
Position the link element where you want the portal to appear.
Copy the URL of the Verse you want to link to.
Paste the URL into the Link Element URL property.
Remember: create portals in both the original and in the linked Verses, so you establish a communication loop that allows users to move freely between your interconnected worlds.
